Our Goldsmiths Story
Around 1910, on the banks of the Noi River in Tambon Sala Chao Rong Thong, Wiset Chai Chan District, Ang Thong Province, Mr. Chuen Kit Yi settled down and started a small gold shop under a large tamarind tree. He crafted exquisite pieces using gold, copper, and silver with few simple tools, yet his work was rich in creative energy. He became widely known as... "The Goldsmith of the Tamarind Tree."
Time passed............
...The tamarind tree took deep root in its original soil. When Yindi, the sixth daughter of Mr. Chuen Kit Yi and Mrs. Pao Pi, inherited the goldsmithing profession with love, dedication, and unwavering commitment, and with the encouragement and creative energy of her visionary partner, the Tamarind Tree Goldsmith Shop of Mrs. Yindi and Mr. Chai proved its traditional value, creating unique handcrafted pieces that preserved the natural beauty of pure gold, maintaining honesty and fairness to its customers. Around 1957, the tamarind tree continued to spread its roots deep on the banks of the Noi River, shedding leaves and branching tirelessly. Under the name "Tamarind Tree Goldsmith," Fongchan, the eldest granddaughter of the grandparents, the first daughter of her parents, was born and raised under the tamarind tree, amidst the atmosphere of creating unique works of art. From melting, hammering, drawing, threading, joining, designing patterns, engraving, and polishing, she observed, absorbed, and practiced goldsmithing with dedication. Therefore, when her father passed away prematurely in 1960, she fully took over the goldsmithing profession, expanding the business both in her hometown and to other provinces.
Nearly 100 years later, seeds from the original tamarind tree have taken root in Ayutthaya, the former capital, and Bangkok. Under the shade of a new tamarind tree, the fourth generation of goldsmiths continues the legacy, dedicating their skills to conveying the unparalleled spirit of pure gold, a craft that will forever captivate their customers.
Buying from local artisans supports the local economy and allows you to connect more closely with the creator of the piece. It can also contribute to preserving traditional craftsmanship.
