How to calculate Thai 96.5% Gold price.

อัปเดตเมื่อ 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

In Thailand, the local gold market is based on 96.5% purity gold (ทองคำแท่ง 96.5%) instead of 99.99% (international “spot” price).

  • Take international spot 99.99% → convert to THB/gram.

  • Multiply by 96.5/99.99 ≈ 0.965.

  • Multiply by 15.244 g → gives a base “96.5% baht gold” price.

  • Add market premiums, VAT, and dealer spread.

  • The Association publishes the final benchmark, which all Thai shops follow.

*Gold is quoted per baht weight (บาททองคำ), which is 15.244 g (sometimes rounded to 15.2 g in retail).

  • Wearability & strength: Pure 99.99% (24K) is very soft. Mixing ~3.5% alloy (mainly silver + copper) makes chains and bangles tougher for daily wear while keeping the deep yellow color people expect.

  • Consistent color: The Ag/Cu blend at ~3.5% gives the classic Thai yellow tone. Higher purity can look “paler/softer” and deforms more easily.

  • National market standard: The Thai Gold Traders Association quotes official buy/sell prices for 96.5% (both bar and ornament). With one purity standard, every shop can buy/sell/re-melt quickly with tight spreads and easy math.

  • Liquidity as savings: Thais often treat gold jewelry as a savings account. A common purity (96.5%) plus the baht-weight system means you can walk into most shops anywhere and get a fair price on the spot.

  • Manufacturing convenience: Bullion is commonly 99.9/99.99%; smiths alloy down to 96.5% to hit the mechanical properties they need. It’s a well-understood recipe in local workshops and assay labs (often hallmarked “965”).

International Reference (99.99%)

  • The LBMA spot price (London Bullion Market) is quoted in USD per troy ounce (31.1035 g) for 99.99% pure gold.

  • To compare with Thailand, that price is first converted into USD per gram, then into Thai baht per gram using the current exchange rate.
